As the spring semester recently came to a close, two
faculty members from the Department of Teaching and Learning were honored
during the College of Education awards ceremony. Dr. Micah Stohlmann, was recognized
with the Early Career Award while Dr. Jeffrey Shih was given the Distinguished Service
award.
Dr. Stohlmann (right) began his Assistant Professor
appointment at UNLV in 2012 teaching mathematics and STEM education. Dr.
Stohlmann has been a strong addition to the Department of T & L as
evidenced by his teaching evaluations and multiple publications, as well as his
service to the department, college, and university as a whole. Dr. Stohlmann
integrates his STEM related research into his teaching and also utilizes his
research in collaborating with Clark County School District.
Dr. Shih serves as an Associate Professor of
Elementary Mathematics Education and has been with UNLV since 1999. In 2013,
Dr. Shih served as the Program Chair for the largest mathematics education
conference in the world, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Additionally, Dr. Shih maintains involvement with a number of local, regional,
and national organizations including the American Educational Research
Association (AERA), the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, and the
Nevada Collaborative Teaching Improvement Program.
